Sony Alpha a7R III Mirrorless Digital Camera
|
The Sony Alpha a7R III Mirrorless Digital Camera combines many of the stellar features of the various a7 series cameras into 1 powerful multimedia machine. It took the high resolution sensor of its predecessor, the a7R II but updated the BIONZ X image processor. This afforded a leap in continuous shooting speed – up from 5 FPS in prior models to 10 FPS. While not nearly as quick as the Sony a9, it's still suitable for most action scenes, including sports, wildlife, and events. Base ISO has been expanded from 100-25,600 to 100-32,000 while the Fast Hybrid AF System now offers 425 contrast detection points in addition to the 399 phase detection points – up from 25/399. The a7R III uses the same high-capacity battery as the a9, which allows up to 530 shots per charge. With dual SD card slots, a tilting touchscreen LCD, headphone/microphone ports, and a PC sync-in port for external lighting, the a7R III has positioned itself as the all-around go-to camera with pro-style operability that's exceptionally powerful for portraits but also extremely well suited for events and commercial work.

The Sony Alpha a9 Mirrorless Digital Camera combines several powerful features together in one body to make a flagship multimedia system. It features 4K full frame video, exhibits significantly reduced rolling shutter effects (choose between mechanical shutter or rolling shutter modes), and supports un-cropped 1080p slow motion up to 120 FPS. Uncompressed HDMI out enables the use of optional external recorders for clean 4K recording with 4:2:2 sampling while internal 4K recording is possible in frame rates up to 30 FPS (at 30 FPS, drops down to Super 35mm). Enhanced Zebra function allows for easy monitoring of exposure values with video signal level targets that can be set from 0-109 while a built-in time code feature assists in more precise editing later. Packed inside the weather sealed, magnesium-alloy a9 body is 5-axis SteadyShot INSIDE image stabilization that corrects for both pitch and yaw adjustments. The 693 AF points cover around 93% of the image area, dense enough for extremely fast and accurate focusing of moving subjects. For manual focusing, a peaking function will highlight your sharpest areas or you can also use the built-in focus magnifier. Thanks to the stacked Exmor RS CMOS sensor system, data processing speed is 20x faster than previous Sony full frame mirrorless cameras. All of these features make the a9 an ideal camera for videography.
Photographers can enjoy up to 20 FPS shooting speeds and maximum shutter speeds of up to 1/32,000th of a second. Dual SD cards slots allow for shooting RAW + JPEG easily or be assigned as "overflow". For clear viewing, a quad-VGA OLED Tru-Finder EVF features an impressive 3.686m-dot resolution and 120 FPS refresh rate for clear, bright, and smooth eye-level viewing that's 2x greater than the EVF in previous Sony full frame mirrorless cameras. The physical controls are intuitive and appealing to those who like the feel of more traditional cameras (and includes a joystick for direct AF point selection). Additionally, the battery life has been improved and sports 2.2x the capacity of the NP-FW50 used in prior Sony full frame mirrorless systems (approximately 480 images per charge).
